Ending KeyCreator Home Use Licenses

Since the end of the dongle-based license system around 12 years ago, KeyCreator Pro maintenance has included access to one “Home Use” bonus node-locked license per commercial license. In 2026, Home Use licenses currently issued to eligible customers will be expiring and regeneration will not be available. This change matches similar licensing policy changes across the MCAD industry over the last 6-7 years.
Over the last decade numerous other simpler methods for customers to achieve this type of access flexibility have become commonplace. KeyCreator maintains several licensing system options that provide exceptional flexibility to setup easy access on several PCs.

Kubotek Kosmos License System Options
·         Activation (Check-out/Check-in, node-locked)
·         Login Authentication (Web-based sign-in for local install)
·         Floating (Network sharing)

The advantages/disadvantages of each of these options are documented in the help topic Software licensing overview.

I’ve also just published a related article on our public blog, Run Your Software Anywhere - Flexible Licensing. I’m proud of our leading position in this area and thankful to the KeyCreator users who have helped us develop this flexible system.

The purpose of the Home Use bonus license was to provide customers with a way to annually setup a second PC with access to the program for use at times when the primary license was setup in another location. Setup of the Home Use license required finding the MAC address of the target PC, generating an encrypted text file on the support site, and copying the downloaded file to the correct name and location there. It is probably obvious from this description that the support costs on this system were high. We have concluded that continuation of this redundant option for the minority of customers using it is not in the best interest of the community overall.
For many customers switching from the node-locked Activation and Home Use methods to Login Authentication will be the most flexible way to use the software on whichever workstation is available. For companies with IT resources able to provide secure network remote login, upgrade to floating licenses is worth looking into.
