Generic edit, select a solid.  Rendering, check "set material rendering", then check "transparency".  There is a slider there for the level of transparency.

Or, use the "Change Transparency" function... there you can enter the amount of transparency, and apply it to entire solids or just individual faces.  Not sure what menu that one's in, I have it as a toolbar icon.
