3d Printer and stl export
We just installed a 3D printer and I am wondering if you have any tips on exporting a file as a stl. What settings do I use from the options dialog box before exporting a stl?
Thanks
Ken

RE:3d Printer and stl export
Ken,
It depends on the quality you are printing or want to print.
For a rough print the Normal Angle Tolerance can be set high (10 to 15)
For a finish (Fine) Print set the same to (2-6).
This is just like the Normal Deviation in the setting of KC the higher the number the rougher the model the smaller the number the more the detailed the model.

RE:3d Printer and stl export
Thanks
Just like anything else, we'll do trial and error until we get the best result for us. I see it can be written out as Binary or ASCII. Other than different sizes of the exported files (ASCII being way larger) is there a preference?

RE:3d Printer and stl export
Ken,
It really depends on your software for your printer (Slicer Program),
Some take the Binary and some take the ASCII and some take both.
I have had really good luck with ASCII.
I usually output a 10 for a draft print and a 3 for a final print.
What printer did you get and what software are you using?

Ken
Thanks for your input. We just had this installed last week. We are mostly going to use it for looking at customer parts that we will have to create the tooling to manufacture.
The printer we have is a Stratasys dimension 1200es.
The software is CatalystEX.
