Parallel dims
Working in KC 14.0 for a few weeks, today I had to use the parallel dimensioning function. After picking the 2 points the dimension appears in horizontal where in previous version the dimension was in the axis of the 2 picked points. Is there something I'm missing (options, setup,...)
Thanks!

RE:Parallel dims
Hi Francis,
Check the "aligned" box in settings to change the alignment. If using "Quick Dimension" (recommended) then right click to select Parallel, and again to select Edit Settings".
This can also be done easily after the fact by using Generic Edit on the dimension.
Best regards,
Mike

RE:Parallel dims
After you pick your two points then pick the "angle" from the tool bar. This will give the option of using the ref points or two other points etc. It took me a bit to find this after they did the change as its not intuitive.

RE:Parallel dims
Rick & Francis,
If the problem is with the orientation of extension lines and not the orientation of the dimension text, then what Rick says works.
However, this appears to be a bug in the parallel dimension function. A parallel dimension should default to the angle of the picked points. The selections should only be modifiers for the standard behavior.
Note the the ordinate parallel dimension function works logically with fewer keystrokes.
Will point out this Web Forum topic to Tech Suport for their input.
Meanwhile, the quick dimension function has less overhead for parallel dims.

RE:Parallel dims
I have been looking into this but so far I have not been able to reproduce the problem. If I use Detail>Linear>Parallel I get the detail that I expext to see. Could it possibly be an issue with your set construction plane?

RE:Parallel dims
Hi Chris,
Just checked with construction planes set different ways. Still the same. The dimensions are always horizontal. The only way to get it parallel is to select "angle" in the dialog box and then define the axis by selecting the dimension points again.
This is with 14.0.0 build 3237.
Thanks for looking into it,
Mike

RE:Parallel dims
Can you email a sample file to support@kubotek3d.com so I can take a peak?

RE:Parallel dims
I get the same thing as Mike and I'm on 14.0.1 (3666). In playing around with this function a little I did find that if I choose the first position I get the "Angle" selection in the conversation bar. Clicking this and then choosing "Ref-Pts"
prior
to making the second selection makes the function work as expected
AND
the function seems to retain this setting even after closing the file and/or KeyCreator so this may be the fix, however it doesn't explain why the function gets wacky in the first place.

RE:Parallel dims
I may have found what is causing this issue. Simply choosing "Angle" before placing your dimension seems to be what is causing the dimension default to change. In addition this also seems to affect the Diameter by 2 Positions function in the same manner as well. In either case, doing as stated above seems to get it to revert back to functioning as intended. Can anyone else verify?

RE:Parallel dims
You got it Keith!
It appears that the function sticks once set right. It also sticks globally to other open drawings.
It also sticks after closing and re-opening KC.
