Bug with taper faces of a solid
This bug is confirmed, reported and logged. I just wanted to make users aware of it.
The Taper Faces of a solid function with method "about an edge of the face" is broken, when using on a cylindrical surface of any kind. The problem is, that visually, there is no problem. I had to find out the hard way, working on a complex model.
See the video I made.
Taper Face
Please let me also know, if you have a problem viewing the video.
Thank you, hans

RE:Bug with taper faces of a solid
Hans,
I looked into this issue and just wanted to make you aware that the problem has been resolved. Is there a specific downstream operation that was failing because of this? The face goes from being a cylinder to a cone in the example you provided. This bug would cause a function like Verify Entity to still call it a cylinder.
Thanks,
Ram

RE:Bug with taper faces of a solid
Ram,
the model that caused the issue originally had a cylindrical hole, but the top face was angled, so when I drafted the cylindrical hole, the drafted hole became a spline surfcace, as it should have. I couldn't tell you, what caused the model downstream to fail, but it did. See the picture my customer sent me. Look at the green surface (the drafted cylinder originally) how it is detached from the blue surfaces. Now in KC I didn't see the gap and the model verified ok. However, after my customer made me aware of what he saw, I started to remove fillets that touched the green surface. After every fillet that I removed, the vertices didn't line up anymore and the model became more unstable.

RE:Bug with taper faces of a solid
Hans,
The problem that caused the database mismatch error would not have affected what you are showing here. (It would simply cause a function like verify entity to falsely flag the drafted faces as still being a cylinder, and not a spline)
Here is a simple reproduction scenario:
Create a cylinder, the verify entity tool tip will tell you the curved face is a cylinder.
Taper the cylinder face it so it now becomes a truncated cone. Verify entity will still call it a cylinder until you rebuild wires.
If you have your part saved in a state prior to the taper, can you see if you can still dupe this problem and if so report it to tech support?
Thanks,
Ram
