3d scanning/model creation
Does anyone currently use a 3d scanner of any kind to get solid model data into KeyCreator?
We're looking for the simplest manner to create solid models from existing parts in order to compare to CAD or in some cases reverse engineer existing parts to create the initial CAD. We have a FARO Arm and will likely be purchasing the scanning arm for this but I wasn't extremely impressed with the results it gave for this or the amount of work necessary to convert the point cloud data it gives you into a usable model which involves a lot of tedioous meshing and repair and even included some CAD touch-up/creation on the tail end.
We're keeping our eyes peeled for something simpler that might require less work after the initial scan so I thought I would see if anyone is currently doing this. On a side note, wasn't Kubotek partnered with a 3d scanning company at one point in the past?

RE:3d scanning/model creation
Long ago, before Kubotek, Cadkey came from Micro Control Systems Inc., a company that had been making 3D digitizers. I gather the original Cadkey was an offshoot of their 3D digitizing software.

RE:3d scanning/model creation
I use the David Laser Scanner system as well as the Matter and Form Scanner. Not extensively, but just a bit. I can agree with you completely that there is a lot of work converting scanned data into USEABLE CAD data. So much so, that I don't even advertise it as a service anymore.
These systems would be far infirior to your Faro Arm system, I would think. So maybe not a fair comparison. But it's just my experience.
