Add mechanical elements to BOM
Mechanical elements can't be added to BOM.
The system masks some elements but not mechanical elements.
For the moment I have to burst the mechanical elements as solid
in order to add them to BOM.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
I was never clear on why they needed to be mech element entities anyway, same with fasteners. If we had better control over how the database fields were used in the entity naming it might be better.
Also, at least in the case of fasteners, if you create as a fastener object then silhouette lines don't work. Burst the fastener and then they work.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
Thanks for catching this. I will look into getting mechanical elements added to the list. In the mean time burtsing or changing set-up to not create as mechanical element should help. You will also need to name them.
Just like fasteners enities, this was flag as a special entity type for specific behavior in the past for quick ID/selection.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
Thank you Wes.
I discovered that an old KeyCreator 13.5 version does permit to select mechanical
elements.
Why is important to define, let say, a spring as mechanical element not as a solid?
Because of a spring as mechanical element has an insert point and can be aligned with
the center of the hole.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
Even if it's not a mech element you can still align it with a hole when inserting. Afterward, that insertion point isn't available for position selection either way.
Another issue (bug) is that silhouette lines don't work with mechanical objects, but they show up after the mech element is bursted to a simple solid.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
Dana,
I'd rather keep mechanical elements.
This helps me to mask the entities
to bring them in BOM standard components.
Insert point of fasteners and mechanical
elements is very important for me because
I can easily place or move them in the right place in the model.
I don't see a problem with the silhouette of spring as mechanical element
.

RE:Add mechanical elements to BOM
Solomon,
Since you are now a beta tester, note that this is available to test in Beta 4
Issue # K3D-6278: The different Mechanical Elements and Structural Shapes should be in the list of filterable entity types in BOM.
Thanks,
Ram
