The cplane should not change by itself, but you may be accidentally hitting a hotkey combination that changes it? The default keyboard file uses CTRL+number keys to set the cplane, so if you hit CTRL+5 it will change to cplane 5.

But how can anybody work in a 3D model with CP=DV? The only time I ever use CP=DV is if I'm adding text oriented to a particular isometric display view.

thanks for the reply.

Maybe I am confused, the reason I keep setting CP=DV is that it solves an issue I have with dimensions and lines not displaying in th correct plane. Often I will draw a Line Vertical (V) or place a dimension say in the XY plane and it will not display in the XY plane but in the XZ plane.
If I the set CP=DV and repeat the Line Vertical etc. then it displays in the correct plane.

Am I missing another setting to correct this?

Set the cplane to what you want. If you want a vertical line or dimension in the XY plane, set cplane 1, if you want it in the xz plane, set cplane 2, etc.

If you set CP=DV the line or dimension will always be oriented to the display, which may or may not be oriented to anything in the model.

Some people like to display the view and/or construction axes in the corner of the display to help keep track.
