Since I am unable to submit a ticket I wanted to get this info down somewhere before it got lost and perhaps find out if someone else is seeing this issue:

We've noticed an issue when creating instances in Layout Mode but I am not certain when it started or what is causing it. The issue is that when we create instances the thread rendering mode will randomly set to <default>. If I recall correctly this used to remember the thread rendering mode from part to part? It appears that if we catch it when creating the initial instance the setting will remain for that file and layouts but it seems to happen frequently and randomly with each new file.
