Hi Cadfuzed,
Hope all is well.
I do not mean to second guess you but it seems as though you are preparing your part(s) for laser cutting.
If so, you could flatten the shelled sold. Explode it so it becomes line segments. Then erase from the side view all of the lines below the top profile. Export this profile as a DXF file.
Your fabricator most likely can use this file directly to program fhis laser cutter.
Note: set your profile to be visible in "top" view for uniform resul;ts.
