Importing SolidWorks Assembly
Greetings,

Have to do a project with a SolidWorks house.

I have tried importing some test assembly files (Sldasm).  They import perfectly both with the KC translator and as a S/W generated STEP file.

However, I cannot get the individual parts that comprise the assembly to import into its own layer.  Have tried all combinations in the import dialog options.

Possibly the import function is broken in this regard or there is some trick that I am missing.

The parts do import properly as references but creating levels and placing them there manually is not practical for the size of files anticipated (100's references).

Ideas most appreciated!

Thanks
Mike

RE:Importing SolidWorks Assembly
there is a KXL  called spreader     if you run this it will put everything on sepparate levels - no names or text  will be with it If i remember correctly . also  there is no rhyme or reason for what level it puts things on ......  it all depends on how the solidworks file was created   .  be aware  everything will have its own level    - no assemblies or sub levels so to speak .  I really wish this could be improved upon as the references have all the text naming info           let me know if this helps     i run across this quite often

RE:Importing SolidWorks Assembly
Thanks Hank.   Someone shared a KXL with me backchannel that worked well also.

In reality, the levels option is part of the import dialog but looks to be broken.   Will report as bug to KC team.

All the best,
Mike
