RE: Rectangular springs
Hi Nathan,

The easy way is to go to McMaster.com and download the spring model.  They may have what you want under die springs.

The other way is also pretty easy.  In the solids menu go to "create" / "swept" (second icon) / "helix".
Select the parameters and the rectangular profile that have drawn and it should work.

All the best,

Mike

RE: Rectangular springs
Nathan,

Did you try Transform / scale on the axis you wish to compress?  It will distort the rectangular profile but for your purpose that may be ok.

I do it all the time with springs.

HTH,
Mike

RE: Rectangular springs
Nathan,

Send me the spring model you wish to compress and the percent of compression you desire.

My email is above.    Let me try to scale it.

Mike

RE: Rectangular springs
For die springs, I just create a square cross section spring, then use offset face on the center to shrink the ID.

RE: Rectangular springs
I have written a KXL program to do that. I had sent the KXL to Nathan right after he posted the quesion. If someone is interested, feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Hans
