Some questions - requests
  1. This was logged as a request a LONG time ago. Logged as 26296.  I would like to keep the last setting I used in when using Tools> Fastener, Feature, Structural Shapes and Mechanical Elements. An example is -If you change  the head depth of a Counter bore it reverts back to KC defaults the next time you go back to Tools>Features>Counter bore or any of the other feature selections. Our company has set our own depths for reamed holes. I would like to be able to only set these once. Now each time I want to put in a ream I have to re-set the depth.
  2.  I’ve requested a few times about a faster way to stack balloons would be great.  A solution might be using a hot key.
  3. When exporting settings could you include the Detail>Section View settings? Currently they are not exported and have to be manually reset to our company’s requirement.
  4.  I have in layout mode a number of layouts of blank borders ready to use. When I start detailing I copy and rename border layout and add my instances.  I would like these blank borders set as read only. Is this possible?
  5. I would like to automatically create 4 instance views without having to go into layout control and create new and rename. When I start a new part, I have in layout mode a number of borders ready to use. When I start detailing and I have a number of similar details with the same characteristics I just copy, rename and start on the next detail. All the notes, title block descriptions do not have to be modified very much if at all.
  6. While in Layout mode open the Layout Control dialog box and select delete> OK to delete a layout. Why does reprocessing of the next layout take place when the dialog box is still open? What if that is not the layout I want to see next? I should be able to pick the next layout to open before reprocessing begins.
I have sent a copy of this to support.
Thanks
Ken

RE:Some questions - requests
This is the reply from Kubotek and my response back.
Red is their answer back to me.
Blue is my response.

This is still open. Since these values are pulled from a database directory and not saved in the registry or workspace, adding he values that you commonly use to the database is development’s suggestion. That’s not to say that this won’t change but for as of right now, this is where we stand.

1. I understand this would be a major rewrite for development. I was wondering why this wasn’t included in the other major rewrites since it was requested numerous times over the years. In the old forum if I remember correctly it was well received by other users.

2.  I’ve requested a few times about a faster way to stack balloons would be great.  A solution might be using a hot key.

Development says they do not have enough information to take action on this. Looks like the request was posted on the old web forums. Now that the forums are gone so is the original request. If you can provide more detail I can get it added to the request and can re-submit.

2. When I am ballooning and need to stack a balloon.

a. I have to open the “Create a new Balloon” dialog box.

b. Change the Leader type selection field to Stacked.

c. Click on Ok

d. Places the stacked balloon.

e. Reopen the “Create a new Balloon” dialog box.

f. Change the Leader type to what I want.

g. Click Ok.

h. Continue on until I need to stack another balloon.

The last job I did had 23 stacked balloons on one print . Imagine how much time would be saved if I could assign a command and/or Hot Key to stack balloons on the fly. I realize I could wait and stack balloons all at once but I shouldn’t have to as our company has a ballooning standard.

I have included an image of one of my ballooned prints. User image

3. When exporting settings could you include the Detail>Section View settings? Currently they are not exported and have to be manually reset to our company’s requirement.

This request is still open. No ETA listed by development.

3. Please keep this in mind for a future release.

4.  I have in layout mode a number of layouts of blank borders ready to use. When I start detailing I copy and rename border layout and add my instances.  I would like these blank borders set as read only. Is this possible?

Maybe have these borders on their own level and uncheck the “Selectable” check box for that level.

4. Let me explain a little better. My “New Part Template” has in layout mode customized print borders size A thru E. At the beginning of a job in the title blocks of each border I put job numbers, dates, notes etc. As I’m detailing I copy one of these layouts, rename and detail. This way I don’t have to reenter job numbers dates etc. on every print I am detailing. I would like a check box so I could make these “blank” borders read only so I don’t accidently use them or modify them.

I am not sure I am following this one. Are oyu able to share a sample?

5. What I want is when I am in layout mode already to be able to click a button and have 4 views created. I shouldn’t have to create a new layout to import 4 views. Currently you have to open the layout dialog and create a new layout, then click on “Quick Drawing Instance Controls” to get 4 views automatically.

6. While in Layout mode open the Layout Control dialog box and select delete> OK to delete a layout. Why does reprocessing of the next layout take place when the dialog box is still open? What if that is not the layout I want to see next? I should be able to pick the next layout to open before reprocessing begins.

KeyCreator automatically loads the next layout in the list. If the re-processing is an issue I would recommend doing this from model mode so KeyCreator is not loading a layout automatically in the background.

6. That’s what I try to do but sometimes I forget.

Thanks
Ken

RE:Some questions - requests
Ken,

This relates to Item 4. I do the samething. I have borders A-D. (I can't plot an E)
In my borders I have notes with fields define that point back to the drawing properties.
For example I use the "Part Number" in the file properties as my job number. In the border text it is "|100". You select it from the fields drop down in the edit window. I use several of these fields.

When I start a new job, I go into File-Properties and set these, Then it sets them for all the borders.

There are other places that this linking ability exist. I wrote a KXL program that I use to generate my BOM. If I have a bar, It ask me to pick the linear dimensions that define the bars overall size and places the proper link (object number) for the dimension text. With this, if I stretch or shortened the model the typed BOM updates to the real length.
