Facets/Segment lines
I recall this being answered once before but it was long ago and on the old forums; What causes arcs in KeyCreator to show as a series of flats and how do I fix it? Additionally when a file with this visual discrepancy is exported it is being imported into our CAM software with these segments. Is there an export setting that is causing this or is it the file in particular?

RE:Facets/Segment lines

I think I found it: File>Properties>Units/Tolerances>Solid Faceting?

Oddly if I try to set this to "Specify solid face facting quality" the setting won't stick, it always reverts to "Coarse". I CAN check the "Specify solid face faceting parameters" and change the number and the setting sticks but what does this do that's different from the aforementioned setting?

Is there no way to edit your posts/comments?

RE:Facets/Segment lines
Hi Keith,

In File/Properties first set the faceting slider all the way over to fine.

If that is not enough then you can set the edge curve faceting from the default 5 degrees to 1 degree.  That is on the same properties screen.

Also you can save the properties by saving a blank file as a CKT  (template file).

HTH,

Mike

RE:Facets/Segment lines

Thanks Mike.

Is there something that would cause that setting to revert back to "Coarse"? Each time I change it to Fine and hit "Ok" it reverts back to Coarse.

I am able to check the "Specify solid face faceting parameters" and change the number there and it will remain set but the slider always reverts back to Coarse.
I did save a template with the faceting parameters specified so I guess that will work for what I want.

This should not effect anything in your cam software, an arc is still an arc regardles what you see visually.   What format are you translating in?  Splines are another animal.  Make sure your CAM software can be tuned to a very fine tolerance before machining.  Mine is set to .0002 or less.

Not sure why with today's computers we need to set the tollerence.  The default should be as fine as the programe will allow.  If It's just a visual thing anyway why not.  I hate to see a 20" circle look like crap on my screen and then can't do anything about it.
