RE:New to KC
Thanks, Francis.

My main struggles have to do with the sequence of steps you have to go through in KC compared to the CAD I've used for so long. KC takes more steps, or in some cases the steps are in a different order, or it takes both more steps and different sequences. I stumble here a lot.

Getting familiar with the icons for the various tools and how some of the tools work is taking a lot of time. The trim tools are a little overwhelming. None of them work as I expect them to. My thought process of how to go about doing things is being disrupted.

To be honest it's frustrating. I'm used to getting things done fast. I think it's a matter of practice more than anything.

Thanks again,

Steve

RE:New to KC
Steve, for what it is worth, I have been a user for 25 years. A couple of years ago I decided it was time for a change. I tried several options, some very expensive, some cloud based. Parametric as well as free form. But in the end, I am back with Keycreator.

It has always been a 95% package - by that I mean there are always some bugs, shortage of info, some irritations, BUT, in the end KC is unbeatable for speed and flexibility of modelling. So we just smile and bear with it, and love it.

If you are able to spend just half a day next to a seasoned user, you will be well on your way. Hang in there!

RE:New to KC

Steve,

Have you checked the lessons, and videos, over at Kubotek University? There is a ton and a half of information there.

I've been a KeyCreator/Cadkey user since 1997. In 2003 our company switched to Solidworks. I'm not familiar with the programs you mentioned, but I can assure you that KC is faster (by better than 2 to 1), and easier, than SWX.

Part of the problem, I think, with learning a new program is the "old" program has become practically instinctive. Therefore those thought processes naturally come front-and-center when trying to do something. And, at the same time, force any new thoughts to the back. (If you understand what I mean.) Once you get used to it I think you'll find the direct modeling of KC is really superior.

RE:New to KC
Mike,

I downloaded a lot of the training material and was well into it, but was soon wishing to understand more of the basics so when a step in a tutorial is omitted I won't get stuck. or stumble. I could use a few tutorials on just the trim tools alone.

I agree my ingrained ways of doing things is a hindrance. Just looking for a tool icon that I'm not familiar with slows me down, and then there's the new steps I have to take to use the tools. There are other frustrations as well.

I have a feeling that once I get the swing of how to use KC efficiently it will be better. At least I hope so. I found myself going back to my old CAD to sketch out some quick ideas in both 2D & 3D to see different ways of how a few challenging parts might go together.  I plan to carry the work over to KC and continue, but I realized how transparent the old tools are to me. After 20 years I guess they should be.

My son once said the hardest part of getting good at playing guitar is putting up with not being good at it.  I can relate.

Thanks again.

Steve

RE:New to KC
Hi Steve

For starters I would run the the test drive guides (help>help and tutorials) for a basic introduction to the software. You can suplement that with all of the PDF and vidoe lessions that we have online in the KeyCreator University. Some poeple have recommended DocWalt but sadly I am not sure if he is with us anymore. HIs website is gone and I have not been able to contact him via phone for at least a year. He was an incredible resourse and most of the lessons online were created by him.
